Identity Checks
1. Why We Verify
1.1 Sydney Casino only takes players from places where the law permits online gambling, and we meet Canadian rules on identity, age verification and anti-money laundering. We fulfil these duties by verifying who every player is.
1.2 Checks protect you as much as they protect us. They stop people under 19 from playing, keep stolen cards and accounts out of our lobby, block anyone trying to move criminal money through games and make sure withdrawals reach the right person.
1.3 We complete identity (KYC) verification and a geolocation check before any deposit. No account can be funded until it has passed both.
1.4 Verification is a standard step for every player. Being asked for a document does not mean we suspect you of anything.
2. Ongoing Monitoring
2.1 Verification continues after registration. Deposits, withdrawals and betting are monitored for as long as each account remains open.
2.2 We look for patterns that do not fit normal play, such as:
- withdrawals made soon after deposits with very little betting in between;
- sudden large changes in deposit size or frequency;
- payment methods in names that do not match the account holder;
- signs that several accounts are linked or controlled by one person;
- logins from locations where we do not accept players.
2.3 If activity raises a question, we can pause withdrawals or deposits while we look into it and request further information by email.
3. Identity and Age Checks
3.1 At registration, we verify who you are by checking your legal name in full, birth date and residential address. Often this check is completed electronically against reliable data sources, so nothing needs uploading.
3.2 If electronic checks do not provide enough confirmation, we ask for documents. These usually include:
- Identity: current photo ID issued by a government, showing your name, picture and date of birth;
- Address: a recently issued bank statement, official letter or utility bill that displays your full name and where you live;
- Payment ownership: proof that you own every payment method you use, whether a card, an e-wallet or a bank account.
3.3 Uploads have to be sharp, in full colour, uncropped and not edited in any way. On card images, cover the security code and the central digits of the long card number before uploading. We do not need the security code at any point.
3.4 Our goal is to process documents promptly. We will email you when verification is complete or if we need anything further.
4. Record Keeping and Reporting
4.1 We retain verification records, the outcomes of checks and transaction histories for the period Canadian law requires. They are held securely, and only authorised staff can access them.
4.2 We notify the relevant Canadian authorities of suspicious transactions and certain large transactions wherever legislation demands this. The law also prevents us from telling any player whether we have made such a filing.
4.3 Our Privacy Notice explains how we store and protect personal information.
5. When Checks Fail
5.1 Your account remains restricted while we are unable to confirm your identity, age or location, or while requested documents have not been provided. Deposits, play and withdrawals stay suspended until the matter is resolved.
5.2 We close the account if documents appear forged or altered, if a player is under 19, or if we find evidence of fraud or money laundering. Any winnings obtained through fraud are void.
5.3 Any balance left in an account after closure is dealt with according to our Account Terms and applicable law. If a legal duty requires us to keep those funds, they remain with us.
6. Source of Funds
6.1 Where activity reaches higher levels, or a deposit pattern looks unusual, we can ask for evidence showing the source of the money you use to gamble.
6.2 Acceptable evidence may include recent payslips, bank statements, a tax document, paperwork showing you sold property or an investment, or documents linked to an inheritance. In some cases we may also ask where your wider wealth comes from.
6.3 We use this information only to meet our legal duties and to make sure play is affordable. It is never used for marketing.
7. Screening for Political Exposure and Sanctions
7.1 Every player is checked against sanctions lists, Canadian and international, when signing up, and these checks continue regularly afterwards.
7.2 We further check whether a player holds or once held a prominent public role, and also whether they are related to, or closely connected with, a person in such a role. These players may still keep an account, but enhanced checks apply, including on source of funds, along with closer monitoring.
7.3 We cannot open or keep an account for anyone subject to sanctions that prohibit us from dealing with them.
